Our Next Trip
Departing Saturday 12th March 2011:-
Due to popular demand - we are heading back to the fabulous hotel Kramerwirt in Mayrhofen.
Set in the beautiful Ziller valley, Mayrhofen offers fantastic skiing and excellent après ski. The wonderful skiing in Mayrhofen takes place on the two separate, sunny plateaux of the Penken and the Ahorn, easily accessible by the two village centre lifts while the free bus service opens up the huge Zillertal ski area including the Hintertux Glacier.
Mayrhofen is a big time ski resort in anybody’s league. One hundred and fifty nine kms of slopes are connected by 49 lifts that stretch all the way from Hippach right up to the Glacier that towers over Hintertux. These slopes, naturally enough, provide skiing for all standards of skiers, from total beginner to the best of the weekend crowd regions in the alps. However, the big story for skiers visiting Mayrhofen is the new Super Zillertal ski pass. Top skiers too can now list this destination among their possibilities because the beautiful Ziller Valley is home to a number of ski areas totalling 625km of piste, all on one lift pass!
For the more adventurous skier there are 22km of black runs including the steepest run in Austria, the infamous Hara Kiri with a 78% gradient.
The region is now marketed as the Zillertal 3,000 with entrance in Mayrhofen starting from Penkenbahn and the Horbergerbahn. The area also boasts 20 kms of cross country trails for ”kickers and gliders”.
There is a pretty good night life and aprés ski scene in Mayrhofen, with something on hand for all tastes and budgets. The resort is now, and has always been, very popular with the British market, but of late it is also gaining in popularity with other Europeans. This gives the area a much more international personality and makes it a more well rounded destination.
Despite all its rustic alpine charm there is still plenty of part life if that is your idea of fun - the Ski Club GB official website review lists Mayrhofen as offering and I quote "Huge amounts of drunken après-ski action."
Departing Saturday 12th March 2011 we will be staying with Inghams in the 4 Star Alpenhotel Kramerwirt http://www.kramerwirt.at/index_en.php which enjoys an excellent location within walking distance of the main street. The accommodation provided is likely to be a mix of 'Austrian Twin' bed, twin and double rooms all provided on a half board basis which includes a full buffet breakfast and evening meal.
This hotel really is superb - I have personally checked out this years reviews on Tripadvisor and they are all first rate. It is Tripadvisors No1 rated hotel in the resort so we can expect an absolutely top class family run hotel with amazing food!!!
This years rock bottom price is only £599 (£609 if paid by credit card) all-inclusive and for the avoidance of doubt this price includes, flight supplement, security & aviation levy and room supplement but does not include holiday insurance, your lift pass or equipment hire. This year we have yet again pulled the rabbit out of the hat again as we combine a bargain high class hotel with a top class glacier ski area.
Please note - this is important:- each year the number of our skiers with their own travel insurance arrangements increases. This is often via their bank account, credit card or an annual policy. Consequently, we no longer book a group block policy and therefore skiers without free or annual policies MUST take out their own travel insurance at the time they book. This is easily done at low cost on-line with companies such as e-sure (not that I in any way recommend them).
What if you have booked but can’t come? Then simply make a claim under the terms of your travel insurance. As a guide to this sort of thing, being broke after Christmas does not count but finger broke after Christmas does – simple!
Places are limited to 22 so I advise that you book early to avoid disappointment!
